Athletic trainers (ATs) are highly qualified, multi-skilled health care professionals who render service or treatment, under the direction of or in collaboration with a physician, in accordance with their education, training and the state's statutes, rules and regulations.  As a part of the health care team, services provided by athletic trainers include primary care, injury and illness prevention, wellness promotion and education, emergent care, examination and clinical diagnosis, therapeutic intervention and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions.  The NATA Code of Ethics states the principles of ethical behavior that should be followed in the practice of athletic training."

The Rhode Island Athletic Trainers’ Association is the professional membership association for certified athletic trainers who support the athletic training profession in the state of Rhode Island. We are a member organization of the National Athletic Trainer's Association, District One.

AT LifeSaver Spot Light:

This spring Emma Ofner, Athletic Trainer at LaSalle Academy saved the life of a 17 year old track and field athlete.  During a cardiac event Emma recognized and administered CPR/AED on the athlete.  Emma has this to say:

"I have been teaching CPR/AED/First Aid Certification since 2019 which started in Connecticut. I am an instructor for the American Heart Association through A Second Chance CPR and First Aid Training LLC in Durham. I believe that the training I received and the repetitiveness of teaching guided me to perform the way I did. I did not hesitate to do my job, which is to protect my athletes. I am fortunate to have unlimited resources and amazing support from my LaSalle Community. I strongly believe that every high school should be mandated to have an athletic trainer at every home practice/game. Every high school should have at least two AEDs for emergency situations. I hope to help the RIATA explore more into grants and scholarships to help surrounding schools acquire AEDs and other emergency equipment to prevent catastrophic injuries."
